shopping centre STADA Stores

Breda | Stadionkwartier

2013

STADA Stores shopping centre is the first project realised in the ‘Stadionkwartier’ development around the NAC-football stadium in Breda. The programme comprises a shopping centre with a megamarket of approximately 24,000 square meters and a four-level office of about three thousand square meters in gross floor area. The striking triangular form is a literal interpretation of the urban planning preconditions. The articulation of the construction volume is brought about by a striking office volume at the front wall and the floor of the shopping centre that does not cover the entire surface of the footprint. This creates room for the realisation of a large parking level on the floor, which also provides access to the shopping centre and the offices on the first level. On each side of the triangle, a clearly recognisable entrance to the shopping centre has been provided at ground level. The entrances are accentuated by staggering the building mass. All entrances lead to a central atrium, where the dynamics and intensity of the shopping centre are self-evident. For both the exterior and the interior, an emphatic choice was made for a peaceful basis and a solution to and direction of the various publicity expressions. The building is sustainable in all respects: from a technical viewpoint, i.e. solar collectors for hot water, PV-cells to generate electricity, heat-recovery from shower water, air treatment, led-lighting, and in the use of sustainable materials and the embedding in the landscape.
