House R is situated along the banks of the River Mark. The design reacts to the ambivalent character of its surroundings with the busy Terheijdense Weg to the north and directly bordering the sheds of the nearby rowing club to the West. The south offers a wonderful view of the River Mark. By keeping front and side closed, the house literally turns away from its cluttered surroundings. The other half of the house is fully transparent and anticipates the surrounding greenery and water to its full extent. The reflective, glass panels, the wide projections and the spacious terraces allow the full experience of the surrounding nature at any time of the year.
