Several buildings have been realised in building component E of the West8 masterplan for Strijp S, the former Philips factory site. On the north side, the location is characterised by a high degree of urbanity with large industrial buildings up to 28 meters high, and on the south side by the presence of pre-war, small-scale residential buildings. The plan ties in with various levels of scale. The nature of the closed blocks with a distinct parcel allotment is reminiscent of classic, metropolitan urban planning. The parcel allotment gives each building a distinct character with a certain degree of neutrality. Three buildings and a number of townhouses have been realised within this vision developed by West8. Starting from a vertical articulation on a commercial plinth, traditional materials have been used that age well, such as earth-toned bricks, blue stone and varnished natural oak wood. The strong verticality of the brick strips ties in with several buildings in the typical Eindhoven style.
