Karma Design office and showroom

Breda | Hoogeind

1997

The plan entails the construction of an office with production facilities on the edge of the high-quality Hoogeind industrial estate in Breda. The building consists of inter-linked rectangular volumes, shifted in relation to each other. The entrance is located where the two volumes meet. The workplaces of the office do not face the street, but overlook a patio separating the warehouse and the office. The showroom is situated on the first floor: an emphatic requirement of the client to show the product to the rapidly passing traffic. Two canopies dim the light and bring plasticity to the facade. The interior is characterised by an efficient austerity. Galvanised steel, concrete, rough plaster and wood combined with the natural light set the atmosphere in the various rooms together.
